/PRNewswire/ -- Sept. 26, 2011/

WHAT:

Press event, demonstration and discussion on the state of electric vehicles and clean transportation in Massachusetts

In July 2011, the Patrick-Murray administration demonstrated its commitment to clean energy by announcing the installation of 94 electric vehicle charging stations in 25 cities and towns across the Commonwealth. In May 2011, the Menino administration showcased Boston as a forward-thinking "green" city by unveiling the city's first on-street charging stations for electric vehicles.

To commemorate this occasion, UBM Electronics, a UBM company and the daily source of essential business and technical information for the electronics industry's decision makers, and Avnet Express, the e-Commerce engine for Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc.(NYSE: AVT), will host a special event in Boston featuring the Avnet Express Chevrolet Volt, which is part of the year-long Drive for Innovation program.

The Drive for Innovation program, an inspired initiative in partnership between Avnet Express and UBM Electronics, has been created to showcase electronics innovation and automotive system design in the U.S. with a cross-country journey in an electric vehicle - a General Motors Chevrolet Volt, the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year. UBM Electronics EE Times Editorial Director, Brian Fuller, has been hitting the road in locations across the U.S. to capture stories of electronic innovation.

At the Boston "pit-stop," we are inviting local dignitaries, supporters of clean energy, Massachusetts-based electric automobile industry suppliers, Avnet spokespeople and local media to learn more about the Drive for Innovation program and how electric transportation will boost the Massachusetts economy. Highlights will include:

  • Massachusetts' commitment to electric vehicles/clean transportation;

  • Revenue streams and jobs being brought into the state by Massachusetts-based electric vehicle suppliers;

  • Eco-friendly transportation alternatives;

  • And the current progress of the Massachusetts' clean energy initiatives and Boston's Complete Streets initiatives
